Newcastle’s Racer girls had a big win during the holiday break, but are preparing to take on several Class 4A ranked teams in January.

Reagan Greenroyd hit three three-pointers to lead Newcastle on the road against Cache January 7. The Racer girls scored 63 points to Cache’s 26 for the win.

Greenroyd, a junior, had 15 total points for the number 9-ranked Racers, while freshman Kalani Kindred had 13 points, seven of which came from the foul line.

Newcastle came out strong on defense and maintained it throughout the game, only allowing Cache to outscore them in the third period. The Racers had 11 to Cache’s 3 in the first period. They tossed in 23 in the second period to Cache’s 4. A 14-point third period was overshadowed by 16 from Cache. But the Racers hit for another 15 in the fourth period while holding Cache to only 3.

Rounding out scoring for the Racers were: Zarayia Sims with 10, Whitney Wollenberg with 8, and Ziyah Sims with 6. Kaelin Horton had 3 and Ava Snider had 2.

The Racers were pitted against number 6-ranked Kingfisher on Tuesday night. Because of Newcastle Pacer deadlines, the outcome of the Kingfisher game could not be reported. They are scheduled to play Clinton on Thursday, January 16, and then number five Bethany on January 21. They’ll play in the Sweet Pea Tournament January 23, and then later in January against number eight-ranked Tuttle, and number 15-ranked Weatherford.

The Racer boys beat Cache, 51-45. They were scheduled to play in the Noble Tournament, but the winter weather caused officials to change it to a two-game festival.
