SORTPO seeks help with online survey to determine safety needs

The Southwest Oklahoma Regional Transportation Planning Organization (SORTPO) needs help in identifying roadway-related safety concerns around their region. This includes Newcastle.

A SORTPO spokesperson said, “Is there an intersection that needs better signage or signals? Is part of the roadway periodically obstructed? Are there a lot of people speeding? If so, tell us about it.”

SORTPO is conducting a survey looking for roadway safety concerns involving speeding, signage and road markings problems, intersection safety, flooding, animals on roadway, pedestrian safety, bicycle safety, lack of roadway shoulders, overgrowth of trees or grass, or any other concern.

SAFETY: Help identify projects to aid ‘Safe Streets’

SORTPO’s Safety Assessment Digital Map Survey is a way for citizens to assist in identifying projects eligible for federal grants such as the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) grant (as discussed in another story in this week’s issue of the Newcastle Pacer). The survey got underway January 2, 2025, and will continue through February 28.

SORTPO invites residents, business owners, and stakeholders across Southwest Oklahoma to participate.

“Understanding safety concerns on the transportation network is vital to the Forward 45 plan and implementation,” a SORTPO spokesperson said. “Your feedback is critical.”

Newcastle residents can access the Safety Assessment Digital Map Survey at: https://tinyurl.com/sortposafetymap (or by scanning the provided QR code.)

By engaging in this initiative, participants play a pivotal role in identifying key areas for improvement, fostering long-term safety, and shaping the transportation future of the region.
