Traffic stop by Newcastle Police results in meth charge

A routine traffic stop at the north corner of the intersection near the 2500 block of N. State Highway 62 in Newcastle has resulted in the arrest of a Midwest City woman.

Helen Shelton, 23, was taken into custody on charges of trafficking and possession. She also had an outstanding warrant out of Oklahoma County for trafficking methamphetamine.

According to a Newcastle Police report by Officer Brayden Jones, Shelton was the passenger in the front seat of a white Lincoln MKS driven by Raltanon Carolina, 46, of Wewoka, that the officer had pulled over for operating with no lights.

While talking with the driver, Officer Jones observed a baggie containing a green leafy substance sitting on the center console. After finding out that none of the vehicle’s occupants had a medical marijuana license, he requested dispatch perform a routine check for warrants and drivers licenses on Shelton and Carolina, as well as a third occupant.

He states that none of the vehicle’s occupants had a valid license, and this resulted in a search on the vehicle. Newcas tle Officer Dallas Kirby was assisting Officer Jones on the traffic stop and was attempt ing to place Shelton in custody, but noted that she did not immediately exit the vehicle, and was moving her hands around. Kirby said he observed Shelton do a stretch with her left hand and it went over the front driver seat.

The search was conducted and resulted in the finding of a black purse belonging to Shelton which contained two baggies with residue and a blue straw. Officers then found 11 individual baggies of a crystal like substance of about 32 grams in the driver’s seat of the vehicle.

A pat-down search resulted in the finding of a container with a green leafy substance in Shelton’s right jacket pocket.

Just after being read his miranda rights, Carolina claimed ownership of the marijuana that was on the vehicle’s center console.

He was given a warning for defective/improper equipment, and he was cited for operating without a drivers license, and possession of marijuana.

Shelton was transported to Newcastle Police Department where she was booked prior to being transported to Mc-Clain County Jail.
