New ADA Whatley getting settled in at McClain County

New McClain Assistant District Attorney Jacobi Whatley is getting settled into her new position despite distractions like the mold removal.

The Ardmore native is no stranger to Purcell and McClain County since her mother spent a lot of her childhood growing up in Purcell.

Plus, Mrs. Whatley interned in the Cleveland County District Attorney’s office right out of law school at The University of Oklahoma when she graduated in 2012.

Mrs. Whatley earned her undergraduate degree from went back to Cleveland County in 2016 until 2022 when she and her husband, Braden, moved back to Ardmore.

Braden, who is a nurse, and Jacobi have been married for 13 years and have two children, a 10-year-old daughter and a seven-year-old son.

Mrs. Whatley was working in the Carter County District Attorney’s office in Ardmore when she accepted the position here.

She was in a jury trial in Ardmore on that Thursday. Got a verdict and was back in her office Friday. She started in Purcell the following Monday.

“It was pretty hectic,” she said. “It feels like I have come home.

“My mom spent a lot of her childhood here and I have an aunt that is a Purcell graduate. She settled in Lexington. I was in Purcell all the time during my childhood,” Mrs. Whatley said.

Jacobi and Braden are huge OU Sooner football fans and have season tickets.

“We’re just really big sports fans in general,” she said. “We both enjoy playing golf and taking our children to all of their events.

“I’m happy to be here. I’m happy to be back and thankful my boss Greg Mashburn allowed me to come back,” she said.
