Oklahoma Department of Transportation is beginning a bridge rehabilitation project that may impact area drivers who travel on U.S. Interstate 44.
ODOT reports that they have an anticipated start date of January 6, 2025 for work on 119th Street bridge over I-44. They anticipate completion of this project by May 12, 2025.
A second ODOT bridge rehabilitation project is scheduled to start May 12, 2025, on the 134th Street bridge over I-44. They anticipate completion of this project by September 15, 2025.
Both projects are planned to be done with nightly lane closures on I-44 to minimize traffic impacts, according to ODOT.
The projects includes repair of the bridge decks and application of a thin overlay to improve the driving surfaces. They will replace and upgrade the traffic safety rails, and patch columns that need upgrades.
Both 119th Street and 134th Street will be reduced to one lane over I-44 and temporary traffic signals will be used.
A note by ODOT indicates that the structures may be able to support interim six lanes on I-44 with shoulder design exceptions.
This, they also indicate, would provide a stopgap until interchanges could be programmed, funded and designed.
