Dobbs has Match of the Night
Newcastle’s wrestlers beat Lawton High School, 50-26, for the last dual of 2024. They take on Bridge Creek on January 7 and Elgin on January 9.
Against Lawton, the Racers got a forfeit at 106 lbs., and then at 112 lbs. Colton Dobbs earned the Match of the Night by overcoming a 3-5 deficit to win, 9-5. At 120, Gage Stark took the Wrestler of the Dual when he won by fall in 1:45.
Other Racer wins were by Ryder Cruz at 150 lbs. with a fall in 1:37; Easton Beaty at 157, fall at 1:08; Jaxon Mitchell at 165, by fall at 1:43; Rylan Rinehart by fall at 1:13; and Nicholas Lozano at 285, by technical fall, 18-3.
At the Norman Invitational Tournament on December 20-21, the Racer girls brought home three medals. Emma Watson won first place, Presley Garrels won second place, and Raelynn Boffey won fourth place.
Tapanga Bornt wrestled against an opponent who had defeated her at one of the preseason tournaments, and her win earned her the Match of the Tournament. Bornt placed fourth.
