MATC employees shine at ACTE VISION 2024 Conference

The 2024 ACTE CareerTech VISION Conference, held from December 4-7 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, Texas, brought together more than 5,000 attendees and 400 presenters.

Representing Mid-America Technology Center were Mike Eubank, Shelly Eubank, Randy Henderson, Dallas Krout, Mendi Dawley, Wade Jarlsberg, Jona Kay Squires, Amanda Cummings, Alex Jurado, and Terri Hays.

The conference opened with a keynote address by Heather McGowan, a renowned future-of-work strategist. Her session set the tone for four days of innovation, networking, and professional development. The closing keynote featured Steve Gilliland, a motivational speaker, who left attendees empowered to elevate CTE programs.

Dr. Amanda Cummings, Ph.D., MATC’s Assessment Center coordinator, made an impact by presenting as part of the ACTE Inclusion, Access, Equity, and Diversity (IAED) Mentorship Program. Her “You Belong: Creating Inclusive Spaces in CTE” presentation highlighted the importance of fostering inclusivity and equity in educational environments. Dr. Cummings co-presented with: Amy Kastory, NSERVE (North Suburban Educational Region for Vocational Education), Illinois; Amanda Miller, Cattaraugus-Allegany BOCES, Olean, NY; and Dr. Cory Ortiz, Ph.D., University of Alaska Southeast.

This collaborative session emphasized actionable strategies for building inclusive spaces within the CTE community.

Jona Kay Squires, MATC’s Agriculture Business Management coordinator, represented Oklahoma as the Region IV Postsecondary Professional of the Year nominee. Her nomination showcased her dedication to advancing CTE and her leadership within the field.

Squires was joined at the ACTE Awards Gala by a supportive MATC delegation, including Wade Jarlsberg, Chelsea Hatton, Stefanie Kline, Dr. Amanda Cummings, and Chris Willoughby.

MATC employees participated in concurrent sessions throughout the conference, gaining insights into innovative practices, emerging trends, and practical tools for enhancing CTE programs. The event’s expansive expo floor featured more than 250 exhibitors, offering attendees access to cutting-edge technologies and resources.

MATC’s active participation in ACTE VISION 2024 underscores its commitment to excellence in CTE. The knowledge and connections gained at the conference are expected to enrich the institution’s programs, ensuring continued success for both educators and students.
