Newcastle Police Sergeant Chris Holden took into custody Derek Alexander Carr, 27, of McLoud, on Friday, March 3 during a routine traffic stop for an expired tag. After finding out that Carr had marijuana in his pocket but no medical marijuana card with him, a search of the vehicle by the officer turned up multiple types of manufactured THC products, psilocybin mushrooms, and several marijuana cigarettes.

According to the police report, Carr told the officer he did not have his drivers license with him because his wallet had been stolen. He also stated that he did not have automotive insurance. When Officer Holden placed Carr in his vehicle, he also asked him if he had anything of value or illegal in the vehicle. It was at that time that Carr told the officer that he had the marijuana, and nothing in the vehicle except a bottle of cologne and some Pokemon cards.

He also said he has a medical marijuana card, but he was unable to produce it.

Holden states that after confirming Carr’s identity through GEOsafe, he issued the driver citations for failure to register, no insurnace, and no drivers license in possession. He said Carr retrieved some items from the vehicle and was free to leave the scene.

Holden said he then inventoried the vehicle per Newcastle policy and procedure for impound, and discovered a blue plastic tub in the trunk which contained several items that the officer states he did not know exactly what they were.

After the vehicle was transported by Steadfast Wrecker, Holden retrieved the blue plastic tub and transported it to Newcastle P.D. where the items could be further investigated.

Found were the following: a weight scale, 37 pieces of manufactured THC of one gram each; 21 containers of about 1.36 grams each of another THC product; four bags of dried mushrooms, of about 153 grams total; two grams of a green leafy substance; a small red box containing glassware with bowl and residue; four containers of a THC product weighing two grams; and 21 pre-rolled marijuana cigarettes. The items were sent to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation for further testing.

The findings resulted in additional charges of possession of a schedule I or II substance, second or subsequent, were filed on Carr.
