Racer boys basketball has win against Chickasha

Newcastle Racer boys high school basketball is underway with a new season. They started out strong with a win against Chickasha, 51-31. This followed two pre-season losses on a trip to Arkansas.

Last year’s Racers were Regional Champions after beating Bridge Creek, 61-48, and then Bishop McGuinness, 5250. At the Area Tournament, they were two-and-out with losses to North Rock Creek, 62-57, and Stilwell, 36-25.

The Racers lost only one senior to graduation last year. Bobby Burrell committed to play basketball at Southwestern Christian University in Bethany. Returning starters for this year are: Seniors Antonio Brown, Rex Heskew, Zach Cragg, and sophomore Alan Price. Players who saw time on the court and who will return for the 2024-25 season are: sophomore Chris Brinlee, freshman Alec Shumard, and sophomore Jon’tre Sloan.

Newcastle begins the year with a number 18-ranking in Oklahoma Secondary School Athletics Association Class 4A. The regular season opener against Elk City scheduled December 6 was postponed until a later date. The Racers played at Lawton Eisenhower over the weekend in the Lawton Great Plains Invitational.

They were scheduled to play Blanchard Tuesday night, but because of Newcastle Pacer print deadlines, the outcome could not be reported.

A preview with photos of the 2024-25 varsity and junior varsity teams is on page 9 of this week’s issue of the Newcastle Pacer.
