Regular season play now getting underway as holiday break looms
Newcastle’s boys have started their 2024-25 basketball season with a two-win record. They’ve had wins against Chickasha, 51-31, in regular season play and against Lawton Eisenhower in the Lawton Great Plains Invitational, 7643.
Their losses came on a trip to Arkansas where they played Maumelle to a 70-54 loss and North Little Rock, 68-39. In the Lawton Great Plains Invitational, after moving forward in the first round of the brackets, they took two losses in a row with the first to Tulsa Memorial, 65-49, and the second to Lawton Macarthur, 70-45.
At the December 12-14 Lawton tournament, Newcastle came out with their win against Lawton Eisenhower in the first round. They had a well-rounded game scoring in double figures in each period. Cole Seely led Racer scoring with 17 points.
Kam Colbert had 11 points and Alan Price had 10. The Racers had seven three-pointers in the third period, and 12 three-pointers for the entire game.
In the second match, the loss to Tulsa Memorial, Antonio Brown led Newcastle scoring with 21 points. He was followed by Zach Cragg, who had 17 points.
Against Lawton Macarthur, Newcastle started slow in the first half, but then came to life in the second half scoring in double figures. Lead Racer scorer was Alec Shumard with 13 points. Easton Hubble had 9 points, and Brown had 7.
The Racers were to play against their McClain County foe Blanchard Tuesday night, but due to Newcastle Pacer print deadlines on Tuesday afternoon the outcome could not be reported. Newcastle plays Class 3A number-five Anadarko tomorrow (Friday) night.
They are scheduled to play in the Sickle Cell Tournament at 3 p.m. Saturday at Putnam City West.
