RACER WRESTLING
Newcastle had tough duals at Carl Albert December 10 and Chickasha December 12, but then returned to action at the Lexington 89’er City Tournament with several wins.
Against Carl Albert, the Titans received key wins at 215 and 285 to win 51-30. Maddyx Snow was bumped up from his normal 190 pound class to 215 pounds, but only lost 2-0. At 285, Nicholas Lozano had just come out of football to take on his opponent, and fell 3-1 in double overtime.
Rylan Rinehart had the Match of the Event, wrestling a very smart match defeating his opponent, 11-4.
Tapanga Bornt wrestled two exhibition matches and was named Wrestler of the Event, pinning both of her opponents in the first period.
The junior high boys lost, 51-30. The junior high girls wrestled four exhibition matches, and had falls by Emma Watson and Raelynn Boffey. They also had a major decision by Presley Garrels and a decision by Londyn Snow, sweeping the junior high Lady Titans.
Chickasha beat Newcastle’s Racers. The returning Dual State Runner Ups did not lose many from their roster, so they were expected to be tough. Racers Jaxon Mitchell and Lozano were the only Newcastle wins.
The junior high Racers also lost, 59-6. Their only win came at a forfeit at 132 pounds. The junior high girls did much better during their exhibition matches going 3-1 on the night. The Chickasha High School girls didn’t have a wrestler to compete against.
At Lexington, placers included: Gage Stark and Lazano with firsts; Mitchell had a second place; Colton Dobbs finished third; Jace Pierce and Tapanga Bornt had fourth place finishes; and Dean Lingle had a sixth. The Tournament was held on December 13-14 and the high school boys had a fourth place finish overall. Named as Wrestlers of the Event were Gage Stark, Wrestler of the Tournament and Outstanding Wrestler for boys lower weights, and Tatum McDaniel, who came from behind to pin her opponent and take home the first place. She also received the Outstanding Wrestler Award for girls upper weights.
The Newcastle squads will have a dual at Lawton on December 19. The girls will travel to the Norman Invitationals on December 20-21.
