Trinity Duran, Jackson Howard earn accolades for their performances
Both the Newcastle boys and girls lost in their duals at Shawnee on December 3, but there is a lot of wrestling coming this week.
The varsity boys lost to Shawnee, 42-33, while the varsity girls lost to Shawnee, 333. The junior high boys lost, 51-30, and the girls lost, 48-6.
The high school dual was neck and neck all the way through the heavyweight match. There were big wins from Jace Pierce at 113 and Gage Stark at 120. Trinity Duran and Presley Garrels had big wins for the Racer girls.
The wrestler of the dual for the girls was Duran, while the match of the dual came from Jackson Howard. Duran had a big win over Silver Belvin of Shawnee. Belvin came into the dual with a 44-3 record, but Duran jumped ahead in the first period with a takedown and three near fall points. After that she held onto her lead for the rest of the match, winning, 6-1.
Howard had a win over Shawnee’s Ethan Soliz. The match was tied going into the third period, but Howard was able to get the reverse and the fall with seven seconds left on the clock.
The Racer junior high squad went into the dual without having all its weights filled. They reportedly gave up 18 points at the 80-, 92- and 98-pound weights.
The high school and junior high wrestled at Carl Albert on Tuesday. They are scheduled to wrestle today (Thursday) at Chickasha, and then wrestling continues over the weekend at the Lexington 89’er City Showdown.
