Saturday in the park

‘A real celebration’ in the spirit of a community Christmas

The City of Newcastle invites the public to join in on Saturday for Christmas in the Park at Veterans Park, 705 NW 10th Street. Organizers said it is a joyful way to celebrate the holiday season with family, friends, and community.

Families are invited to take free photos with Santa in his workshop. While waiting for their turn, children can work on crafts and activities sponsored by the Pioneer Library System, an event that will be fun and engaging, organizers said. There will also be a free photo area with festive backdrops for family pictures, ensuring everyone can capture their own special holiday memories.

Those attending will be able to explore the North Pole Market, filled with handcrafted gifts, holiday treats, and unique arts and crafts. There will also be food truck fare and festive music.

Newcastle Rotary Club is getting involved by giving away four bicycles at 4:45 p.m. for children ages 0-12.

The annual Christmas Parade will begin at 6 p.m. Before that and throughout the afternoon, participants can enjoy live performances by local talent, featuring music and dance:

• 3:15 p.m.: Shiloh Christian Academy

• 3:45 p.m.: Footworks Dance Academy

• 4:15 p.m.: Newcastle High School Choir

• 4:45 p.m.: Elevate Dance Academy

• 5:15 p.m.: 3rd and 4th Grade Elementary School “As a community, we take pride in celebrating the holidays together,” said Kyle Marks, Newcastle Parks director. “Christmas in the Park is about coming together and making memories.”

The day will conclude at 6:15 p.m. with IN THE PARK on page 2 the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. Family and neighbors are invited to gather together as the City lights the tree and officially welcomes the holiday season to Newcastle.

A community Christmas celebration is planned at Newcastle on Saturday. There will be entertainment, food trucks, activities for the kids, vendors selling their wares, and free photos with Santa Claus, all at Veterans Park. That evening, a lighted Christmas parade will travel on Main Street, back to veterans Park, and the Christmas Tree lighting will be held. • photos by Scott Hannan
