Candidates for the Board of Education in Newcastle and Mid-America Technology Center school districts will file Declarations of Candidacy beginning at 8 a.m. Monday, December 2, 2024.
Declaration of Candidacy forms must be submitted to the County Election Board no later than 5 p.m. Wednesday, December 4 when the filing period ends.
The McClain County Election Board reminds voters that Contests of Candidacy must be filed no later than Friday, December 6 and may only be filed by another candidate for that office. Contests against unopposed candidates may be filed by contacting the County Election Board.
If more than two candidates file for the same Board of Education seat, a Primary Election will be held Tuesday, February 11, 2025.
If one candidate receives more than 50% of the votes, that candidate will be declared the elected official. If no candidate receives more than 50% of the votes, the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes will vie for the office during the Board of Education General Election, Tuesday, April 1, 2025.
If only two candidates file for the same Board of Education office, those two candidates’ names will appear on the General Election ballot in April.
Declarations of Candidacy will be accepted for: Newcastle School District I-1, Board Position # five-year term; and MATC TC 8 – Board of Education Position #1, five-year term.
