The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has mailed ballots for the Farm Service Agency (FSA) county committee elections to eligible farmers and ranchers across the country. To be counted, ballots must be returned to the McClain/ Cleveland County FSA office or be postmarked by Dec. 2, 2024.
“FSA county committee members provide valuable knowledge and judgment as decisions are made about the services we provide, including disaster assistance and other critical financial and technical support programs,” said Katie Waltman, county executive director for McClain/Cleveland County.
Each committee has from three to 11 elected members who serve three-year terms of office, and at least one seat is up for election each year for a certain Local Administrative Area (LAA).
Newly elected committee members will take office January 1, 2025. McClain/Cleveland committee members help FSA make important decisions on its commodity support programs, conservation programs, indemnity and disaster programs, emergency programs and eligibility.
Local Administrative Area (LAA) #1 is up for election for 2024. LAA#1 is the area north of Robinson Street in Cleveland County and the area north of 16th Street in McClain County. The nominees for LAA#1 for 2024 are Jerry Calvert and James Wilson.
Jerry Calvert is nominated in LAA#1, McClain/ Cleveland County, to serve as a committee member for a 3-year term. Calvert resides in Norman and has produced beef cattle for the last eight years. He is an active member of Cleveland County Cattleman’s Association, Oklahoma Cattleman’s Association, and serves as chairperson of the Cleveland County Conservation District, and treasurer for the Cleveland County Fair Board.
James Wilson is nominated in LAA#1, McClain/ Cleveland County, to serve as a committee member for a three-year term. Wilson resides in Newcastle and has produced hay and cattle for many years.
He is an active member of McClain County Cattleman’s Association, Oklahoma Cattleman’s Association, and the McClain County Conservation District.
