Nominations due by 5 p.m. on Friday
It’s that time of year again for the Newcastle Chamber of Commerce to nominate positions to the Board of Directors. Six positions are open this year.
Executive Director Gayla Riddle said the Chamber has an 11-person board and nearly half of the directors are elected to serve a two-year term. Nominees are presented from the Nominating Committee and through individual nominations through the membership.
At this time, the Nominating Committee has proposed the following for the 2025-26 slate of directors: Abbigail Cabello, Focus Federal Credit Union; Janelle Cottrell, Superior Structures; Mica Gallaway- Smith, Walmart; Brittany Houser, The First National Bank & Trust; Emily Littlejohn, Physical Therapy Central; and Tony Pound, Sooner State Bank.
“Additional members may be nominated for the directorship by the submittal of members in good standing,” Riddle said. “Nominations will be open 10 days prior to the Annual Membership and Appreciation Luncheon which is held this year on November 19, 2024. Nominations are due on November 8, 2024, by 5 p.m.”
Nominations may be submitted via email to [email protected]. Riddle said if no additional candidates are nominated by the deadline, the nominations shall be closed, and the slate shall be declared at the annual meeting on November 19, 2024.
Additionally, the Chamber has various opportunities for members to volunteer at events and activities.
“Our Chamber Ambassador program is an excellent way to become more familiar with Chamber operations and help grow our business community while networking with others and promoting your business,” she said. “I sincerely hope each and every member is willing to become involved in whatever way works best for their organization.”
The term of office is two years, unless appointed to a vacant position. The Board of Directors meets at noon monthly on the second Thursday. Officers are members of the Executive Committee and as such meet an additional day per month. All board members are expected to take an active leadership role in the Chamber, which may include chairing a committee. It is estimated that the time commitment for a board members is on average three to 10 hours per month.
