Military prayer from Woodland Hills Baptist Church

To the Editor,

As we pray for our military, it is good to remember our history and those who fought to gain our freedom. Our founding fathers believed we had a God given destiny. The stance of the colonists was simple. Their right to freedom came from God. They declared “We Will Appeal to Heaven.” From this declaration this flag was born. General George Washington commissioned the flag to be flown on the ships during the Revolutionary war to remind them where their strength was coming from.

Our nation as a whole, has forgotten who has blessed us and why. We need to remember where our strength is coming from. He did it for them and He can do it for us. The God of our founding fathers is the same yesterday, today and forever. Our men and women are in harms way fighting foreign enemies to protect us and our freedom. We need to be busy at home fighting the spiritual battle that is trying to take away our freedom of worship and freedom of speech.

We are in a cold Civil War facing a slavery battle as they did under President Lincoln, but instead of the government wanting to free slaves our government is fighting to make us slaves. We need to do our part to get our country back to God by first repenting, asking for forgiveness for allowing evil to rule us and then ... getting people in office using the guidelines given to Moses in Exodus 18:21. “You are to look for capable men among the people, men who fear God, men of integrity who hate dishonest gain. You are to set those men over them as officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens.”

These are the guidelines our founding fathers used. We need to learn from those who fought to establish our great nation and appeal to Heaven.

O ur prayer.

Our most gracious and merciful Heavenly Father, we ask you to bless our military. We ask You to give them and their families (who are home missing them and concerned for them), courage, hope, strength and Your peace. We ask that those who know Jesus as their Savior would be a light to those who don’t, and give them boldness to share their witness with them. Father, we ask you to help us be mindful of the cost paid for the liberty we possess. The cost paid by our forefathers and military and the cost paid by our Lord and Savior, Jesus.

Father, as a nation and Your church, we come to you in humility and repentance asking you to forgive us of our individual and national sins. We ask you for Your mercy and grace. You are the only one who can save our nation. We ask you to give Your church the boldness to speak out against the things that are an abomination to you and to love people with Your truth.

Father, we ask that You grant wisdom from above for our leaders, and may they find the salvation only Jesus can give. May Your church praise You O God and be a light so your ways will be known throughout the earth. In the name of our crucified Savior and Risen Lord, Jesus Christ. Amen Dianne Porter Blanchard
