Do the homework when it comes to judicial retention

To the Editor:

With Election Day one week away, on the ballot we have 12 judge retentions. This is where I personally felt stuck. I did not know if I wanted to keep or let go. Maybe others feel stuck here too.

A friend from my Constitution Alive class showed me how to look them up (using Google), see who appointed them, and if my values and principles aligned with who appointed them to help me best decide. Some judges did show up on the same website that gave me more information, but of course they did not provide where they stood on the issues that I was hoping to know. That website is https://ballotpedia. org.

When it comes to the judges, they make up our Judicial branch. This is the branch that is to have the least amount of power. It is designed that way for a reason.

The Legislative branch is designed to have the most power, knowing that we are “we the people” that make up that branch. The Judicial branch can easily take control if “we the people” do not know the Constitution ourselves.

That shows me how important it is to be more responsible when it comes to voting to retain them in office or not.
