October is recognized as Manufacturing Month, a time to honor the significant contributions of the manufacturing industry to the economy. Mid-America Technology Center (MATC) is participating in this annual celebration, emphasizing dedication to the fostering of growth and innovation within the manufacturing sector.
Manufacturing Month offers an opportunity to acknowledge the vital role of manufacturing at local, state, and national levels. In Oklahoma, manufacturing is a cornerstone of the economy, accounting for 11% of the state’s Gross State Product and employing more than 130,000 individuals (Oklahoma.gov). MATC joins the state in celebrating this sector’s contributions and the partnerships that drive its continued growth.
As part of the Oklahoma CareerTech system, MATC provides numerous pathways into the expanding fields of manufacturing and engineering. Through comprehensive training programs, students acquire valuable skills that prepare them for a wide range of jobs in the manufacturing sector. These programs are designed to align with industry needs, ensuring graduates are well-equipped to contribute effectively to the workforce.
But what sets MATC apart is a distinguishing feature of its Business and Industry Services Department, which provides unique customized training solutions for local businesses.
When companies identify training needs, the BIS team collaborates with a network of sister schools to develop tailored classes aimed at addressing specific challenges. These programs are flexible and can be delivered either on-site or at MATC’s campus, ensuring convenience and relevance to the business’s operations.
Steven Vines, the Short-Term Customized Industry Training coordinator, offers customized training programs focused on industrial safety for businesses seeking personalized solutions. Whether it’s job-specific skills or industry regulations, Vines’ programs are designed to meet the unique needs of each business, ensuring that the workforce is properly trained and prepared for realworld demands.
MATC provides a wide range of industry-specific training programs, which include but are not limited to: OSHA Compliance and Safety Training; Management, Supervision, and Leadership Development; Customer Service Training; Computer Applications and Software Training; Heavy Equipment Operator; HAZWOPER Training; and Pipeline Operator.
By offering this comprehensive suite of training programs, MATC plays a crucial role in helping companies maintain compliance, boost productivity, develop leadership skills, and overall support businesses in achieving their operational goals.
Entrepreneurship and small business development are also key focuses at MATC. Cody Barton, the Small Business Management coordinator, helps to coach entrepreneurs and helping established businesses flourish.
Barton provides free consultations, expert advice, and ongoing support to guide small business owners through the complexities of launching new ventures or expanding their existing operations.
