Racers detonate Midwest City, 43-7

Schanuel named game’s most valuable player; Bradford on offense, Longman on defense

All three phases of the game came together for Newcastle Friday night as the Racers visited Midwest City to take on the Bombers.

Newcastle won the game 437, scoring 36 first half points while holding the Bombers to only 7 for the entirety of the game. The Racers scored another seven points in the third quarter to make the 43 total.

Racer Head Coach Jeff Brickman said, “We ran the ball extremely well and stopped the run. We had our best game with all three phases: offense, defense and special teams.”

Brickman noted that junior running back TJ Bradford had several long runs that he considered to be momentum charged plays for the Racers.

Newcastle ran 30 times for 345 yards. They had an average of 11.5 yards per carry, and 5 touchdowns. Bradford ran the ball 10 times for 162 yards and 3 touchdowns. Senior Jackson Schanuel ran 12 times for 164 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Schanuel was named the game’s most valuable player. Bradford was named offense player of the game, and Kaden Longman was the defense player of the game. Bryan Medrano got the nod as special teams player of the game. Taj Smith was given the Knockdowns (pancakes) award, and Preston Scagnetti received the Sledgehammer award.

The Racers have a bye this week, but will return to action against Classen School of Advance Studies on October 18. Brickman said the team and coaches will be evaluating their game films this week.
