OEC Fiber surges past 40,000 subscribers in 5 1/2 years

OEC Fiber, a Newcastle area rural broadband provider, has shattered expectations by reaching 40,000 subscribers in only five and a half years.

A company spokesperson said this milestone, achieved on September 20, 2024, cements OEC Fiber’s position as a leader in high-speed internet services in Oklahoma.

“We’re shocked, but not shocked,” said David Goodspeed, OEC Fiber president. “When we started installations in February 2019, nobody could have predicted this explosive growth.”

The company’s rapid ascent hasn’t gone unnoticed. OEC Fiber has racked up several accolades, including: Three-time winner of “Best Internet Service Provider” from 405 Magazine (20222024). Two-time recipient of “Best Internet Service Provider” from Journal Record (2022-2023). Top 10 Regional Providers for Fastest Real- world Speeds from BroadbandNow. com (2024).

As well, they’ve received the Digital Inclusion Award for Digital Literacy from BroadbandNow.com (2024).

Despite this success, OEC Fiber remains grounded in its cooperative roots. Goodspeed attributes their achievements to the foundation laid by Oklahoma Electric Cooperative’s electric service.

“The resources and tools at our disposal have made this possible,” he said. “We compete on price and speed, but our reliability sets us apart.”

Looking ahead, OEC Fiber shows no signs of slowing down. With new housing developments fueling growth in electric and fiber services, the company stands poised for continued expansion.

The company spokesperson said OEC Fiber intends to lead the charge in rural broadband development across Oklahoma, with this 40,000-subscriber milestone marking the beginning of what promises to become an exciting future for high-speed internet and subscribers in the Sooner State.
