Win streak spurs on Racer Fast-Pitch as post-season looms

The Newcastle Racer Fast-Pitch Softball team is steadily working towards making the playoffs.

Their season record is 189, however, they recently went on a streak, winning 11 of their last 12 games.

Head Coach Mike Crossley said, “We are getting better each game. We just want to continue to get better so we’ll be at our best for the playoffs.”

Crossley said the girls are gaining confidence with each game, and with seven seniors on this year’s team, it helps out tremendously with leadership.

“The greatest benefit from having all those seniors is they’ve been through some tough games and they know how to fight through the adversity that you face in tough games,” Crossley said. “You need that leadership to beat tough teams.”

The Racers play at 5 p.m. tonight (Thursday) against Crossings Christian.

They’ll continue play after the weekend with a 5 p.m. Monday game at Little Axe, and then again at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Elgin.

Newcastle hosts the Regional Tournament on Thursday, October 3. Times will be announced.

“I’m excited. This team has really improved and they’ve really worked hard,” Crossley said. “You have to be coachable and be able to make adjustments to give yourself a chance to compete in the playoffs.”
