Newcastle-Blanchard a defensive battle

Newcastle-Blanchard a defensive battle

Lions score last to beat Racers

Blanchard hit the scoreboard first with a touchdown in the first quarter, taking the early lead, 7-0. Newcastle punched a field goal in the second quarter, making the score, 7-3.

That’s where the score stood at halftime.

The Racers notched a touchdown in the third quarter to take the lead, 10-7; however, Blanchard added a fourth quarter touchdown to regain the lead and the win, 14-10.

Racer Head Coach Jeff Brickman said it was a great game played by two good teams.

He said both defenses stopped each other in the red zone, and it was a defensive battle all night. Neither team could establish their run game.

Despite the loss, several players were recognized for their efforts. Taj Smith, Blake Allen, Tone Brown, Ayden Elcyzyn, and Rex Heskew were all pointed out by the coach for their performances.

The Racers will play Class 4A Elgin this week in a nonconference game. This would normally be Newcastle’s bye week.

The Owls are 2-0 on the year with wins against Lawton Macarthur, 28-7, and Dallas Hillcrest, 58-0. The Racers have had one win, against Bartlesville, and two losses, against Tuttle and Blanchard.
