County Democrats’ to discuss turnpike issues

McClain County Democrats will meet at 7 p.m., September 17 at Libby’s Café in Goldsby.

They are hosting speakers who are against the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority proposals near Newcastle, and who they say will inform and update those attending on the two proposals.

T hese are: the East-West Corridor, that connects Newcastle to Norman, and the Southern Extension of Kickapoo connecting to U.S. Interstate 35 just north of Purcell. Organizers said come at 6:30 p.m. to visit and eat. The meeting starts at 7 p.m.

Kelly Wilson is one of the speakers. She is a member of Oklahomans for Responsible Transportation and Pike Off OTA.

The second speaker is Adrienne Gautier with the Red Earth group Sierra Club. She will provide her opinion on the environmental impact of the East-West Corridor and the Canadian River.
