Fastpitch softball is off to a quick start in 2024 with the Newcastle Racers sitting at 6-7 on the season.
Their record, however, is not indicative of what they’ve accomplished, according to Head Coach Mike Crossley.
As they Racers were going into the pre-Labor Day break, Crossley said they had won four of their last five games. Of losses, the Racers led for most of the games or hung in there against Guthrie, Norman and Elgin. That is, all but one inning.
“We’re getting better at not giving up a big inning,” Crossley said.
The coach said some of the players were moved around on defense, and they are doing better now.
“We’re still excited,” he said.
Newcastle played Classen SAS on Tuesday, and then moved to the Lincoln Christian Tournament today through Saturday. They’ll play McLoud on Monday and Perkins-Tryon on Tuesday.
