A free eight-week course on the United States Constitution will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Mondays beginning September 9 at Woodland Hills Baptist Church.
The course can be taken in person, or online.
Constitution coaches Jason and Devona Hardaway of Newcastle will teach the course, Constitution Alive!, which continues through Monday, October 28.
Woodland Hills Baptist Church is located at 313 S. Highway 76 in Newcastle.
The importance of the course is marked through a quote that course planners have provided from John Jay, first Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court.
Jay said, “Every member of the State ought diligently to read and to study the Constition of this country, and teach the rising generation to be free.
“By knowing their rights, they will sooner perceive when they are violated, and be the better prepared to defend and assert them.”
Constitution Alive! course planners ask the following challenge questions:
• Where in the Constitution is the phrase “separation of church and state” and whose authority is it under?
• What are the five fundamental rights identified in the First Amendment?
• How does the Constitution address abortion and where?
• How many branches of government are identified in the Constitution?
• What branch of government is the strongest?
• What branch of government is weakest by design?
•What are the enumerated powers of congress?
• How does the Constitution address search and seizure through warrants?
• Is “Court Packing constitutional?
• How long are judges appointed for?
• What is a Convention of States and does the Constitution allow for it?
• Is the United States of America a Constitutional Republic or a Democracy?
The answers to these questions and more will be provided in the eight-week course. The public is invited.
