As the new school year approaches, families are busy buying supplies and making last-minute summer memories. Healthy habits can sometimes get overlooked in the rush. Shape Your Future, a program of the Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust (TSET), offers free resources to help teachers, parents and students maintain healthy lifestyles throughout the school year.
“It’s common to lose track of healthy routines during the summer months. Backto- school season is an opportunity to reset and develop new, healthier habits,” said Julie Bisbee, TSET executive director. “Shape Your Future provides Oklahoma families with the resources to do just that.”
Healthy habits can improve well-being and academic performance as children return to a classroom routine. Studies show a significant link between healthy behaviors and academic success — including grades, standardized test scores, graduation rates and attendance.
The 2019 National Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) highlights the widespread health behaviors among children that improve their long-term health. ShapeYourFutureOK. com offers families physical activity tips, recipes, nutrition guides and support all year long.
