One of the benefits of being a member of your local chamber of commerce is the networking they do with other communities’ chambers of commerce.

Newcastle Chamber of Commerce partnered with the Blanchard and Tuttle Chambers for a luncheon Wednesday, July 17 at the Blanchard High School cafeteria.

To hammer the point home, the guest speaker was Phil Nichols, of Guthrie, who spoke on the importance of being involved in your local community and the chamber of commerce.

Nichols, an executive advisor and business consultant, had lost his teenage son to an enlarged heart and associated complications. He and his wife went through a very difficult time until about a year-and-ahalf after the son’s death.

At that time, Nichols said, he chose to live life purposefully. And that’s when his life really started.

Nichols said what really matters are the people in your life.

“You need to help others and mentor others, and take opportunities to talk to others, offering words of encouragement,” Nichols said.

He said the key is to focus on others and not on one’s self.

“Have some grace, be humble, and love the people in your community,” he said. Enjoy every day — laugh and love.”

Nichols concluded by saying, “Support your community and support each other.”

The Multi-Chamber Luncheon had several sponsors, but the presenting sponsor was Norman Regional Health System. Suzanne Hawkins represented Norman Regional and introduced several physicians and nurses who serve the Tri City area.

The Chickasaw Nation was the title sponsor, and other sponsors included Pioneer, OERB, OEC/OEC Fiber, Focus Federal Credit Union, Tinker Federal Credit Union, The First National Bank & Trust, and Nabholz Construction. Also sponsoring were Liberty National Bank and Legacy Bank.

Kelly Hughes, of OERB, provided a video presentation about the oil industry in Oklahoma. Mike Van Sickle spoke on behalf of The First National Bank & Trust, concerning its services.
