Veteran elementary school teacher Teresa Crook, of Newcastle, was appointed by the Newcastle City Council at their July 8 meeting to serve on the Pioneer Library System Board of Trustees.

The Board of Trustees is the governing body of the Pioneer Library System with each city and county of the threecounty service area represented. Board members strive to help the library best serve their communities, which includes Newcastle. Crook has been teaching elementary education for 20 years and privately with children who have dyslexia since 2014. She has a passion for teaching children and learning new and innovative instruction.

In 1991, Crook graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma with a degree in Elementary Education. She is married and has four children. After a few moves with her husband’s job, they came to Newcastle to raise their family. Crook taught at Newcastle Elementary from 2006-2020. She was also the Title I teacher, helping children with their reading.

About 10 years ago, she spent two years training as a Dyslexia Therapist, to help the students grasp their reading skills better. Since 2020, she has been employed with Epic Charter Schools, teaching 3rd-5th grade. After school and during the summer, Teresa does private dyslexia therapy with her reading students.

Outside of school, she’s a member of the Newcastle Rotary Club.

She enjoys volunteering during community events such as the Friends of the Library Book Sale, Spook the Park, Christmas Tree Lighting, and the Fourth of July celebrations.

As a member of the PLS Board of Trustees, she joins other members from communities in Cleveland and Pottawatomie Counties.
