Mid-America Technology Center has eight of its students, accompanied by six sponsors, who were recently attending and competing at the 2024 SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference (NLSC).Theconference wasfromJune24-28inAtlanta, Georgia, and was attended by career and technology education (CTE) students from across the nation.
Eight MATC students competed at the national level, having already proven themselves at state-level competitions. TheirparticipationinAtlanta was a testament to their hard work, skill, and dedication in their respective trades. Students representing MATC were: Eli Connor, Isaac Estepp, and Matthew Henderson – Engineering Technology-design (team event); Scarlett Fountain and Kylie Macarthur – Web Design and Development (team event); Ayden Dobbels – Diesel Equipment Technology; DustiGrossnicklaus(postsecondary) – Extemporaneous Speaking; and Isaiah Butler – Job Interview.
Accompanyingthestudents were MATC sponsors who have played a crucial role in preparing them for the competition by providing guidance, resources, and encouragement.
Sponsors are: Amanda Cummings–Pre-Engineering teacher; Bob Parsons – Pre-Engineering teacher; John Turnpaugh – Medium/Heavy Diesel Service Technician teacher; Justin Young – Cyber Security teacher; Kara Murphy – Horticulture Technician teacher; and Randy Henderson – director of Full-Time Programs The NLSC featured competitive events showcasing the nation’s best career and technology students. Competitions are designed to test students’ skills through hands-on tasks, leadership, and communication skills in real-world environments.
