As the Pioneer Library System reaches its midpoint of their 2024 Summer Learning Challenge (SLC), exciting upcoming traveling programs are set to engage and educate the community.

Christina Brady, Children’s Department manager at the Southwest Oklahoma City Public Library, highlighted the success of a recent SLC event at their library: “‘Lemur’ tell you how excited we are for the Summer Learning Challenge at Pioneer Library System. We have some amazing programs including Extreme Animals where customers, age 6-11 with their caregivers, can experience an up-close encounter with some incredible exotic and domestic animals,” she said.

Extreme Animals is just one of the many traveling programs included in this year’s engaging menu of programs. Presenters from Oklahomabased organizations such as Magnolia Blossom Ranch, Science Museum Oklahoma, Museum of Osteology, Oklahoma City Museum of Art, USA Taekwondo, Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma, Hooplahoma, Spaghetti Eddie, Dino O’Dell, R.A.C.E. Dance Collective, and Pinot’s Palette will bring their fun, inclusive, and educational activities to the community.

Participants complete the SLC upon reaching 1,000 points and can select items from their library’s treasure chest at every point badge earned. Those signed up in the Early Childhood, Child, and Teen categories also get a free book at 500 and 1,000 points, thanks to a generous donation provided by the Pioneer Library System Foundation.

SLC activities continue now until August 15.

In addition to SLC, PLS offers touring Mobile Maker Lab services to each of their branches throughout the year. The Maker Mobile’s next stop is the Tecumseh Public Library August 6-10, where the lab will be open to the public each day.

Beth Lyle, Branch Manager of the Tecumseh Public Library, expressed her enthusiasm for the upcoming visit: “One of the great things about this visit is that there are walkin hours when you can stop by and get help with your own special project. Maker Mobile Lab equipment includes 3D printers, laser cutters, embroidery machines and more!”
