A large response of local and area law enforcement at the Tri City Walmart on Saturday did not go unnoticed on social media.
Detective K.O. Morrissey told the Newcastle Pacer that the Newcastle Police Department received a phone threat at approximately 2:39 p.m. on Saturday June 29. He said the caller threatened to shoot up the Tri City Walmart located in the City of Newcastle.
Newcastle Police officers, with the assistance of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, McClain County Sheriff, and Lighthorse Police, secured the area and evacuated the store to ensure the safety of the public.
Officers searched the area and the store and did not locate any threat.
Morrissey said no further information can be released at this time as it is an active investigation.
