The Organization of Rural Oklahoma Schools (OROS) is working to preserve rural education by promoting and protecting Oklahoma Rural Schools. OROS stands as a beacon of support and advocacy for these schools, offering a myriad of services to foster growth and excellence within their communities.
At the forefront of OROS’s endeavors is its commitment to legislative advocacy. Recognizing the unique challenges faced by rural schools, OROS provides a dedicated legislative consultant during legislative sessions. This consultant serves as a voice for rural education, advocating for policies and resources that address the needs of rural communities. Whether it’s securing funding for infrastructure improvements or championing initiatives to enhance educational opportunities, OROS ensures that the voices of rural educators are heard loud and clear in the hallowed halls of government.
OROS is governed by a slate of officers and directors represented by every sector of the state. In addition to representation from public schools, CareerTech also has a seat at the table. The At-Large Director for this year representing CareerTech is Mike Eubank, Mid-America Technology Center Superintendent.
Central to OROS’s ethos is the belief in the power of collaboration and shared learning. Each month, the organization convenes board meetings where members gather to engage in meaningful discussions and exchange ideas. These meetings serve as a forum for collective problem- solving, with representatives from member schools coming together to address challenges, share best practices, and chart a course for the future of rural education in Oklahoma.
One of the highlights of OROS is its Annual Fall Conference, a premier event that brings together educators, administrators, and stakeholders from across the state. Covering a diverse array of topics relevant to rural education, the conference equips attendees with valuable insights, strategies, and resources to enhance their professional practice and elevate student outcomes. This year in addition to the fall conference, OROS will meet as a part of the Cooperative Council for Oklahoma School Administration (CCOSA) Leadership Conference, June 12-14, in Oklahoma City.
OROS also demonstrates its unwavering commitment to academic excellence by awarding $25,000 in scholarships to member schools. These scholarships not only recognize academic achievement by also serve as a testament to OROS’s dedication to nurturing the next generation of rural leaders and scholars. By investing in the educational pursuits of deserving students, OROS helps in empowering rural youth to reach their full potential.
Additionally, OROS offered free School Finance workshops, equipping educators with the financial acumen and resources necessary to navigate the complexities of budgeting and resource allocation. In an era of tightening budgets and fiscal constraints, these workshops provide invaluable support for rural schools, ensuring fiscal sustainability and efficiency in the face of financial challenges.
