Contacts by the Chickasaw Nation Lighthouse Police to Newcastle Police Department and K-9 Ari resulted in finding large amounts of cocaine and methamphetamine in two different incidents at the Newcastle area casinos.

The finds and resulting arrests of two individuals took place at Riverwind Casino on Wednesday June 19 and at Newcastle Casino on Sunday June 23.

The first incident at about 3:32 a.m. in the Riverwind parking lot resulted in the arrest of a 33-year-old male after K-9 Ari, along with Officer Dallas Kirby, alerted on a white Nissan Altima.

“I gave K-9 Ari his command to search, and he began on the passenger side of the vehicle and gave a positive alert on the rear passenger door of the vehicle,” Kirby stated in his report. “This was showing he alerted to the odor of narcotics inside the vehicle.”

He said upon thorough examination of the vehicle, Lighthorse Officer Cash located two smoking pipes in the front driver area, one plastic baggie containing a crystallike substance that was in the front driver area, and one large bag of crystal-like substance which tested positive for methamphetamine. It was located in the back seat area behind the driver seat in a backpack.

Total field weight was 203 grams.

“Lighthouse Officer Cash placed the male driver under arrest for trafficking a controlled dangerous substance,” Kirby said.

Kirby and K-9 Ari, along with Lighthorse Officers Muse and Todd were conducting a premises check at Newcastle Casino at approximately 9:18 p.m. on June 23 when the Newcastle officers were asked for an open-air sniff on a black Chevrolet Silverado truck.

“I placed K-9 Ari in a starting pad and gave his command to search. K-9 Ari started slowing his movement and started walking slow towards the front of the vehicle,” Kirby stated. “K-9 Ari continued to search slowly and his tail was stiff while searching. This showed me that K-9 Ari was detecting an odor, and K-9 Ari then sat on the passenger side rear door.”

Kirby said he told Officer Muse that Ari had alerted to the odor of narcotics inside the vehicle. After returning Ari to the patrol vehicle, Kirby then helped Officer Muse with a search inside the truck where they observed a zipped bag in the front floor area between the front driver seat and the passenger seat.

After opening the zipped bag, they found several small baggies containing a white powdery substance inside.

Continuing the search, they also found another clear bag with a large amount of white powdery substance inside. A field test was conducted and the substances tested positive for cocaine. Total field weight of the substance was 55.5 grams. The evidence was seized by Officer Muse and a 32-year-old female was arrested and taken into custody.
