The Newcastle Chamber of Commerce has a new local shopping program entitled, Local Love Basket Hunt: Summer Edition. This will be a community scavenger hunt designed to boost traffic to local businesses during the slower summer months.

This fun and engaging event encourages community members to explore local businesses, and win prizes.

Participants will frequent local Newcastle businesses and look for the Chamber’s basket. Upon finding it, they will win all the items inside it at that time.

Chamber Executive Director/ CEO Gayla Riddle said for businesses to participate, send an email to [email protected] with the subject line Local Scavenger Basket Hunt: Summer Edition.

“Once you are on board, we will schedule a time for your business to fill the basket,” Riddle said. “When it’s your turn, you will fill a basket provided by the Chamber with items that represent your business. This can include swag items, samples, gift cards, branded merchandise, or any other goodies you would like to offer. It will be a small basket, so it doesn’t need to be a lot; just a few things that represent you.”

The Chamber will then deliver the basket to the next participating business. Shoppers and clients will visit these businesses to find the hidden basket.

When a shopper finds the basket, they will say, “I found the basket,” and win all the items inside.

The basket’s business host will take a photo of the winning shopper/client with you and send the photo back to the chamber. It will be shared on the chamber’s social media platforms to promote both the business and the event.

After a basket is claimed, new items fill it up and the Chamber relocates it to the next participating business.

Riddle said, “This cycle continues throughout the summer, ensuring ongoing engagement and exposure for all businesses involved.”

She added that participating businesses don’t have to be retail to join in the scavenger hunt. The chamber already has banks, retail shops, utility offices, etc. signed up.

Riddle said, “We hope you will be a part of this fun community event that encourages supporting local, customer loyalty and foot traffic to your business.”
