Jackie Chambers, age 86, of Newcastle passed away on June 1, 2024. Jackie Ann Seward was born on May 7, 1938 in Monahans, Texas, the oldest of three children born to David Seward and Norma Talmage (Weeden).
She was primarily raised in Monahans, where she attended school and graduated high school in 1955. On July 6 of that same year, Jackie married her high school sweetheart, Burl Ray Chambers. Together they raised three beautiful children-Burl Ray Jr., Debra, and John.
The Chambers family lived in various places over the years such as Monahans, Oklahoma City, and Moore before settling down to make their home in Newcastle. They moved to Newcastle in 1971, and that is where they lived out their remaining years.
Jackie was driven and dedicated to working hard every single day. She was a cook for Newcastle Schools for several years, before pursuing a career as a nurse. Jackie was an LPN by trade, where she so lovingly cared for others for nearly 30 years before eventually retiring.
In her free time, she enjoyed reading, gardening, and crafting. She was an exemplary seamstress, and was so often referred to as the “Grand Master Seamstress” by her children and grandchildren!
She was so skilled in her abilities, she could merely look at a photo or a sketch and recreate it perfectly.
Jackie especially enjoyed making custom costumes, blankets, quilts, and afghans for her loved ones.
Jackie was very independent and headstrong, but she was also very generous in nature. She was such a fierce protector of her family and she truly loved with her whole heart. She was a one-of-a-kind woman, who will be remembered by so many. Jackie was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and a true friend. She will be dearly missed!
She was preceded in death by: her loving husband, Burl Ray Chambers Sr.; her oldest son, Burl Ray Chambers Jr.; parents, David Seward and Norma Shelby; and her brother, Melvin Seward.
Jackie is survived by: her son, John Chambers of Newcastle; daughter, Debra Brown and husband Gary of Blanchard; sister, Lanora Eubanks of Phoenix, Arizona; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren, and a host of other family and friends.
