If you are ages 15 and under, it’s time for the annual Youth Fishing Derby at the Veterans Park pond, 1300 Garrett Drive in Newcastle.
Registration is from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and fishing is from 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 8 at the park.
The fishing derby, presented by Newcastle Parks & Recreation and the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation, has several sponsors and will be awarding special prizes and trophies for the following age groups: six and under, seven to 10 years of age, and 11-15 years of age. There will be winners for the longest fish, the best dressed fisherman, and the biggest fish (first and second places in each group).
Participants are asked to bring their own fishing pole, bait, chair and bucket. Those keeping their catches are limited to three catfish and three sunfish per person.
