A Newcastle man is dead after a collision in Newcastle at 5:20 p.m. on Friday, May 10. Deceased is Steven Franklin Welch, 69.
Newcastle Police Department reports that they received 911 calls about a rollover accident at S.W. 24th Street and State Highway 62, and upon responding to the scene, located a commercial van and an overturned silver Honda in the grass median.
Officers found the driver of the Honda was unresponsive and trapped in the vehicle, and with fuel leaking into the passenger compartment. Officers attempted to extricate the driver.
Newcastle Fire Department and McClain-Grady County Emergency Medical Service arrived and determined the driver of the Honda was deceased.
Officers completed the investigation and notified the next of kin.
The driver of the van was identified as Douglas Kyle Sharp, 36, of Blanchard.
