It was an almost school site-wide celebration at Newcastle Middle School when they topped the school bond project being built.
Students, teachers and administrators stood on the north side of the building as a crew from Nabholz Construction placed a steel beam, that had been signed by students and staff, atop steel support girders.
Randy Knight, project manager from Nabholz Construction, said the Topping Out Ceremony celebrates finishing the most difficult part of the project. He said it brings community together and is a tradition used to celebrate and express gratitude.
Knight thanked the community for their support of the bond issue which provided the funds for the project, and he thanked the school.
Students, staff and administrators could sign the structural beam on Wednesday, April 17 (see photo) and the ceremony was held and the beam was placed, to the applause and cheering of those attending, last Thursday.
Their names will always be there, Knight said.
The Newcastle Middle School project, when complete, will include classroom additions which are also storm shelters.
The overall project at Newcastle Middle School will include improved traffic flow, a new secure entry, and a new restroom building at the track.
