Newcastle Racer girls soccer has qualified for post-season play, and will likely be in Chickasha at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, according to Head Coach Hannah Venable.
She said the girls will finish in the top four regardless, but did have a game Tuesday night (too late for Newcastle Pacer print deadlines) against Elk City which would determine whether they place third or fourth. If they win Tuesday, they are third in the District, but if they lose they are fourth in the District.
Venable said, “We got big wins against Woodward and Oklahoma Christian Schools (OCS) that put us in the top four.”
Weatherford, Clinton and OCS join Newcastle as the final four.
Venable was looking forward to the upcoming play.
“I think they can compete with anybody they play,” she said. “We’ve only lost by one in our district games that we actually lost. Their work rate is so intense, that no one can keep up.”
She said if the Racers win in the first round, they will likely play Fort Gibson in the second round.
“I told the girls, since we made the playoffs, you might as well go all the way. You are capable of beating any of them,” Venable said.
The coach said she could talk about the entire team, but it would take all day.
“Both of my center backs have helped tremendously,” she said. “They are junior Autumn Hites and senior Melia Stucks.”
She added that senior Bentlee Lindsey is also doing a good job.
“I can put her on the field anywhere and she’ll work hard,” Venable said.
Racer Boys Soccer
The Newcastle Racer boys had a game Tuesday night which determined their post-season status. They played against Elk City (too late for Newcastle Pacer print deadline). A win would give them a fourth place District finish. If not, their 2024 season comes to an end.
