Hand-tallying votes is topic for county Republicans on Monday

McClain County GOP has scheduled its April speaker series for Monday evening with campaign updates and a guest speaker who will discuss the art of hand-tallying votes as opposed to computer voting systems.

Paul Maus, McClain County GOP chairman, said area residents are welcome to attend at 6:30 p.m. in the Newcastle Storm Shelter, 851 N. Carr Drive. A meet and greet is from 6:30 to 7 p.m. and the candidates and guest speaker begins after 7 p.m.

Mary Beth McKane is the guest speaker and she will discuss her training in the art of hand-tallying votes by Linda Rantz, who hails from Osage County, Missouri, and states that people are capable of hand-counting votes accurately, transparently, and quickly.

Maus said Oklahomans must be prepared to count ballots by hand and demand that MEETING on page 3 the election boards eliminate what he says are vulnerable computer-based voting systems.

Maus said, “While there is no perfect way to count ballots, the hand-counting system is out in the open. If there’s an issue, the clerks won’t have a voting machine manufacturer tell them they can’t examine the machines because they contain proprietary information.”

Oklahoma Republican Governor Kevin Stitt, in an April 4 statement on X, said, “Oklahoma voting machines can’t connect to the internet and have anti-tampering technology — and we do random audits after each election to ensure the results are consistent. Those are just some of the reasons why Oklahoma leads the nation in election integrity.”

Maus said, “We look forward to seeing you there.”
