Members of the Oklahoma Women’s Legislative Caucus are helping bring attention to Women’s History Month, observed each March, celebrating the outstanding contributions women have made throughout the nation’s history.

The co-chairs of the bicameral, bipartisan caucus, along with other members, co-authored Senate Concurrent Resolution 18, applauding the outstanding accomplishments of Oklahoma women over the decades.

Both the Senate and the House approved the measure.

Sen. Carri Hicks, D-Oklahoma City is a co-chair of the caucus and presented SCR 18 on the floor of the Senate. The resolution highlighted accomplishments by Kate Barnard, the first woman elected to statewide office, Oklahoma historian Angie Debo, civil rights leader Clara Luper and others.

“Oklahoma women have set records in space, made outstanding contributions in government, medicine, business, academia, the arts, literature and more,” Hicks said. “Our caucus is focused on finding common ground and promoting public policy that will further empower women in our state, because ultimately, their accomplishments benefit all our citizens.”

Sen. Jessica Garvin, R-Duncan, is also a Senate co-chair for the Women’s Caucus.

“It’s my honor to help bring attention to the hard work of so many remarkable Oklahoma women, and how their accomplishments have advanced our state and the nation,” Garvin said. “These are achievements that benefit all of us. I’m proud to co-chair the Women’s Legislative Caucus and to be a part of this bipartisan celebration of Women’s History Month.”
