If you haven’t been to a City of Newcastle ribbon cutting or ground breaking, you are missing out. The City has had ground breaking ceremonies on the new fire station, the new wastewater treatment facility, and the Newcastle Animal Shelter.
Last week, to great fanfare, city officials cut the ribbon announcing the opening of the Animal Shelter. These events are well attended, well run by the City and its architects and contractors, and the mayor always does a great job communicating the whats and whys of the projects.
These activities celebrate the communities growth and they cultivate a sense of pride in Newcastle.
Invested community members — beaming with pride — show up in support. The Newcastle Chamber of Commerce is always very helpful, and the Chamber leadership and many of the members attend.
We, at the Newcastle Pacer, are always represented either in person or having communicated a plan of action to report in photographs and stories about the events that have taken place.
As these new tax payer-funded facilities replace smaller outdated facilities, and with the knowledge that new ones are being built with expansion capabilities, one gets a sense of pride in our community.
Newcastle may be facing fast-paced growth and the issues that come with it, but at the same time we are planning for those issues and building for the future. Our residents should be proud. — Mark Codner, Editor & Publisher
