Several have personal bests at Racer Track opener

Coach Jason Haggerty said he was proud of the Newcastle Track and Field athletes after their first meet of the 2024 season at Putnam City West. He also said he was excited for the year.
Several have personal bests at Racer Track opener

Coach Jason Haggerty said he was proud of the Newcastle Track and Field athletes after their first meet of the 2024 season at Putnam City West. He also said he was excited for the year.

After only three or four practices on the track, Newcastle had several top-10 finishes in both field events and track events at PC West.

The following finished in their events in the top 10: Hunter Barry,returningstateplacer in discus, finished 6th; Katie Lewis,returningstateplacerin the pole vault, tied her personal record and finished tied for 5th; Jordie Brooks broke her personal record in long jump and finished 5th; Ava Snider set a new personal record in high jump at 4’8” and finished 7th overall; and Chad Craft finished 7th in shot put.

The Newcastle girls 4x1 finished in 10th (Peyton Towery, AylaHulsey,LeightonWooten, and Rylee Heskew); and Katie Lewis finished 5th in the 100m hurdles and 6th in the 300m hurdles.

Haggerty said the Racers also had quite a few personal records broken. The coach said he wants everyone to keep in mind that it is still earlyMarch,butaddedthatRegionals is only two months away and everyone will get faster and stronger if they continue to work hard and believe.

Newcastle will travel March 14 to participate in the Bishop McGuinness meet.
