Mail missing from my Post Office box

Dear Editor,

In early February 2024 I went to the Newcastle Post Office to retrieve my mostly junk mail from my post office box. After more than 50 weeks of picking up 25 different pieces of mail each week I found my post office box empty.

I asked the post office teller what happened and she told me I just didn’t receive any mail that week. I was not happy and asked her if they had thrown my mail away. I had no proof so I blew it off.

Two weeks later I was out walking at Veterans Park. I always take my phone in case of emergency. I notice that my phone was dead.

I came home and called my cell phone service provider on my landline phone. They informed me that my credit card did not pay my phone bill like normal. I called my credit card company and they told me they did not receive my check as normal. After checking with my bank, I came to the conclusion that I did not mail my credit card check that month.

My Capital One bill was in the missing post office mail. After a lot of work, I finally got all my finances straightened out.

I went back to the post office and told them all the troubles they had caused. They told me they were not responsible, and that I should have paid my credit card bill without receiving my bill in the mail.

On the 26th of February, 2024, I made a complaint to the U.S. Postal Inspector in Oklahoma City. After documenting my whole story, they did an investigation.

On the 29th of February, 2024, I received a phone call from the Newcastle Post Office and they said they had found my mail in the back of the building. I went to the post office the same day and left with more than 100 different pieces of mail including my Capital One credit card bill.

I received no apology and they continued to act like they did nothing wrong. On February 20, I had an appointment with the local postmaster to discuss my problem. The appointment was at 4:45 p.m. I was stood up.
