Five Newcastle High School wrestlers medaled at Regionals and will make the trip to Oklahoma City today (Thursday, February 22) to wrestle at the State Wrestling Tournament.
Newcastle Racer girls placing at Class 6A Regionals on February 12-13 at Yukon High School and qualifying for the State Wrestling Tournament this week are: Trinity Duran (115) placed second; Aundrea Estrada (235) placed third; and Addison Schuringa (120) placed fifth.
Duran is now at 19-5 on the year, while Estrada is 14-3, and Schuringa is 19-6.
Racer boys who both placed third at the Class 5A Regionals held February 16-17 at Duncan High School and who will be wrestling at State starting today are senior Shane Lovejoy (190) and junior Nicholas Lozano (285).
Lovejoy is at 34-8 on the year, and Lozano is at 36-9 on the year.
The girls team finished in 11th place, earning 77 points, while the boys were 10th overall, earning 70.5 points.
Also wrestling at Regionals for the Racer girls was Tapanga Bornt, Madalynn Powers, Tatum McDaniel, and Katlynn Steinhour.
The boys team lineup included Jace Pierce, Gage Stark (6th), Jake Robertson, Paydyn Christy, Ryan Trozzi, Kage McLean (6th), Hunter Crane, Ryder Cruz, C.J. Povec, Rylan Rinehart, Reuben Rendon-Zamora, and Maddyx Snow.
This year’s team managers are: senior Olivia Cochran, senior Brynna Ford, sophomore Chloe Delno, and freshmen Aubrey Walker and Christian Duran. Coaches are: Zach Hale, Kevin Sheets, Max Rinehart, Red Stark, and E.Z. Duran.
The first round at the State Championship begins at 4:30 p.m. today. The State Consolation Round is at 5 p.m. Friday and the State Championship Semi-Finals are at 7 p.m. Friday.
The State Consolation Semi-Finals begin at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, the State Consolation Finals are at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, and the State Championship Finals are at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
