Newcastle wrestled Chandler on February 5, winning 60-24. It was senior night for the Racers so it was a good send-off.
The junior high boys dual was cut short as Chandler only had one wrestler able to make the trip. He was able to wrestle a couple of matches just for being there. The girls had similar arrangements with only two junior and three high school matches. Newcastle’s girls won three of the five matches and everyone wrestled well.
The Racers varsity ended up 5-6 on the year, but this while wrestling four of the top 15 teams in Class 5A, a top 7 team in Class 6A, an the number 1 team in Class 3A. The high school girls went 0-2, mostly due to having a lot of empty weights. The Racer girls won their matches, but not the duals.
Girls Regionals was underway earlier this week, set for Monday and Tuesday at Yukon High School. Because of the snowy weather Sunday night and into Monday morning, a decision to wrestle or put off for one day would be made by the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Athletic Association.
The Racer boys leave Friday morning to go to Duncan High School for Regionals. They’ll wrestle Friday and Saturday.
