Oklahoma Electric Cooperative (OEC) and OEC Fiber presented a timely topic Tuesday, January 23 when they addressed the Newcastle Chamber of Commerce monthly luncheon about winterization tips.
Daniel Lofland, energy efficiency and solutions specialist with OEC, was the featured speaker at the luncheon.
OEC and OEC Fiber sponsored the luncheon and also provided door prizes of $25 each to two lucky recipients who were in attendance.
Lofland’s main tips included insulating exposed water lines. He also said homeowners need to clean their gutters of any leaves or other debris so water doesn’t create an ice dam that could seep into your home.
Lofland suggested making sure windows and doors have a proper seal, and openings have fresh caulk. He said this is even more important on a home’s north facing wall.
Lofland said homeowners with children need to make sure they are closing doors. He added that opening curtains and blinds to sunlight during the winter can aid in warming a home.
OEC offers a free energy audit to members, according to Lofland.
