This past week was really tough for the Newcastle Racers wrestling squads. Both teams fell to the Marlow Outlaws on the night of Tuesday, January 23.
The high school score was 69-9. The only points coming from Gage Stark, who had a fall at 106 and Jaxon Mitchell with a decision at 138. The junior high score was a little closer at 39-21, with wins from Colton Dobbs, Eason Beaty, Aiden Froysland and Rylan Rinehart.
The girls’ teams put on quite an exhibition, winning 6 out of 10 matches, according to coaches. Junior high winners were Zoey Bornt, Madilyn Folds, and Katie Julian. Tapanga Bornt, Addison Schuringa and Mackienzie Lovejoy were the high school winners.
On Thursday, January 25, the boys teams traveled to take on the Piedmont Wildcats. The high school Racers fell 73-3 with their only win coming in the last match of the night on a decision from heavyweight Nicholas Lozano. The junior high got wins from Colton Dobbs, Aiden Froysland, and Rylan Rinehart, making the dual closer but the Racers still fell, 63-18.
Friday and Saturday was the Midwestern Conference Wrestling Tournament. Coaches said the Racers wrestled well and brought home several medals, but we did not score high enough for a team trophy.
