Lonnie Burns, described as a dedicated community servant, has declared his intent to run for Oklahoma’s House District 20.

Burns, who has been an ordained minister with the International Pentecostal Holiness Church for more than 35 years and a licensed behavioral counselor since 2016, said he is eager to leverage his experience to improve the lives of his constituents.

“In my pastoral and counseling work, I’ve seen firsthand the struggles many of our neighbors face,” Burns said. “I believe in the importance of community, compassion, and care. It is these values that I aim to bring to the House District 20 seat.”

Burns and his wife, Stella, have been married for six years, both being widowers. They each have one child, a daughter and a son, as well as two granddaughters.

Burns is a counselor for the military service members and their families at Tinker Air Force Base. He is associate pastor at Grace Chapel in Lexington, and they are both ministers and work in mental health services.

Burns said he has dedicated his life to serving his community in various roles, including as a council member and mayor of Blanchard, and as town treasurer in Hammon. He is also a published author, having written the faith-based book “The Breakdown of Truth” in 2021. Burns said he is now ready to serve at a higher level, and he is running for the House District 20 seat to bring his values of community, compassion and care to a broader platform.

Key cornerstones of Burns’ campaign include:

• Ensuring accessible healthcare and mental health services, particularly in rural communities;

• Providing affordable housing and improved job opportunities; and

• Advocating for the elimination of grocery taxes to ease the financial burden on families.

Burns added, “All families want the same thing — a safe place to live, safe schools, and the ability to provide for their children. As a representative, I will work tirelessly to make these aspirations a reality.”

Burns’ campaign encourages all eligible voters to participate and make their voices heard. The Republican primary election is set to take place on June 18 and the general election is November 5.
